Richard Griffiths , ator britânico famoso por interpretar o tio Válter da cinesérie Harry Potter, morreu hoje, 29/03/2012, aos 65 anos. Ele teve complicações depois de uma cirurgia cardíaca e faleceu no hospital da Universidade de Coventry e Warwickshire.
Griffiths nasceu em Thornaby-on-Tees em 1947. Filho de pai e mãe surdos e mudos, ele aprendeu linguagem dos sinais antes de falar. Foi descoberto em 1974 atuando em produções amadoras e ingressou na Royal Shakespeare Company, onde permaneceu por 10 anos.
Seu primeiro grande sucesso foi Withnail & I, um filme que depois de fracassar na bilheteria, se tornou cultuado. Griffiths seguiu uma célebre carreira no teatro, rendendo-lhe prêmios Olivier e um Tony, na Broadway.
O reconhecimento veio com a cinesérie Harry Potter, em que ele interpretou Válter Durlsey, o tio do menino bruxo. “Trabalhar com ele foi uma alegria”, declarou ao jornal The Guardian Daniel Radcliffe. “Sua presença tornava qualquer lugar duas vezes mais alegre e inteligente. Tenho orgulho em dizer que o conheci”, afirmou Radcliffe.
